No visit to Aberdeenshire would be complete without a trip to Peterhead or the ‘Blue Toon’ as it is locally known. Located on mainland Scotland’s most easterly point, Peterhead is steeped in rich history and amazing stories all waiting to be discovered.
The best way to explore Peterhead is on the self-guided Peterhead Trail which takes you in and around Peterhead visiting 23 different sites of interest where you will uncover stories about smugglers, secret passages, heroes, poets, ghosts, war, witchcraft, murder, rebellion and piracy!
Joining the Peterhead Trail in 2021 are five new trail panels at the site of the former Peterhead FC, St Peter's Churchyard, Scottish Maritime Academy, Reform Tower and Peterhead Prison Museum.
Peterhead town centre has a fantastic array of local and independent shops from clothing and shoes to homeware and leisure and a monthly producer’s market. Many of the businesses have been set up by young entrepreneurs who are passionate and proud to be from Peterhead and offer a modern high quality retail experience.
Peterhead offers visitors a choice of leisure activities too from a town centre leisure centre to a brand new 5 screen luxury cinema. For craft beer lovers, Peterhead has its very own microbrewery at Brew Toon – an award-winning microbrewery and a BrewDog serving craft beers and tasty food.
If you are looking for family fun, then visit the Arbuthnot Museum and Wheelie World. Wheelie World offers activities for all ages, ranging from Wiggles Karts for toddlers to larger karts suitable for 16+. For the outdoor adventure seekers, Wheelie World offers outdoor activities including axe/knife throwing, archery and Segway challenges.
A new re-imagined ‘Drummers Corner’ in the heart of the town centre will provide a bustling, exciting public space which will serve as a gathering place for public performances and events. The new facilities feature Peterhead inspired artwork designed by renowned artist Fergus Dunnet.
All of this is set against a stunning coastal location on the North Sea with Peterhead Port - Europe’s largest fishing port and Peterhead bay as the coastal backdrop.
